We recently discussed how the Tru-D® iQ system helps drive efficiencies in facilities’ disinfection protocols. However, it’s important to also note that these efficiencies also help make the iQ system more powerful. Not only does the Tru-D iQ system provide faster disinfection with shorter cycle times, but the microorganism reduction (log reductions) are equivalent or better than with the Tru-D Classic device.

Why are log reductions important in disinfection?

Log reductions are a crucial component in disinfection because they provide a standardized way to measure and communicate the effectiveness of a disinfectant or disinfection process.

A log reduction represents the factor by which the microbial load is reduced. For instance, a 1-log reduction means reducing the number of microbes by 90% (1/10 of the original number), a 2-log reduction means a 99% reduction, etc. Achieving a 6-log reduction means that 99.9999% of the microbes have been eliminated. This allows for precise quantification of how effective a disinfectant or disinfection process is.

By using log reductions, disinfection processes can be compared across different methods, environments and products. This standardization helps in assessing which methods are more effective or if they meet regulatory requirements.

The iQ System achieves equal or better log reductions than Tru-D Classic device

In independent lab testing, Tower achieved a 3.21-4.31 log10 reduction in direct line of sight and shadowed areas of a typical room in as little as five minutes.
