Step Three for Successful UVC Disinfection: Proper Installation and Training
Education and training are the number one priority during installation. This is not only for Tru-D operators, but unit staff as well including RNs, Nurse Managers, HUCs, Physicians, administrators and Environmental Services staff. Rounding the hospital with Tru-D before training gives the hospital staff time to ask questions and voice concerns while the Tru-D representative is on site.
Training operators consists of classroom training including a written test, on-the-floor training in patient rooms and OR suites and a competency form for any regulatory agency that may need to see it.
Tru-D also provides “train-the-trainer” materials so new employees and operators can be trained to properly use the device.
In addition to thorough training, Tru-D provides several safety functions and barriers to ensure no one enters the room while the device is in operation. These include door barriers, audible warnings, automatic shutoff upon entry, door monitors and visible caution signage. However, education is the best way to prevent accidental exposure.
